How do I choose?
Before you decide to train with or join a company, you need to ask yourself what unique selling points (USPs) it has. What does it have that will ensure you qualify as a driving instructor and how can you be sure it will provide you with the right route to a secure and decent living thereafter? We have provided below a summary of how LDC can satisfy these points on both accounts:

Why choose a job with LDC
1. First and foremost, LDC is a successful driving school. It is not one of the superficial showcase schools that have sprung up in recent years to help driving instructor training companies and colleges sell expensive courses to the unsuspecting public. Similarly, we are not a struggling driving school who has branched out into driving instructor training to help prop up a failing business. Operating a successful driving school provides LDC’s main source of income and profit. It is very easy to give the illusion of having a successful driving school on a website or in a brochure but once you do some serious digging you will often find there is little or no substance behind the glossy facade.

2. The LDC driving school was established over 17 years ago in 1991 so we have the know-how, financial stability and experience to ensure you succeed.

3. Since we moved away from the traditional driving school method of charging a large weekly fee for our services we have gone from strength to strength with over 600 successfully established driving instructors now in our team across the UK.

4. LDC offers the most flexible working arrangement of any driving school where the driving instructor only pays a small weekly fee with all other resources being optional. Thus you only pay for what you need or only acquire those resources from LDC that truly represent good value for money - a much fairer system.

5. LDC also offers a very effective Pupil Generation service that ensures you are never out of pocket (unlike the traditional large weekly franchise fee schemes) and any pupils generated by you are free. And best of all we support you in this task in several unique ways including helping you maximise your number of referrals.

6. As an LDC driving instructor you offer your pupils the unique LD System of driving tuition with DVD's and a Driving Skills workbook plus a comprehensive range of pupil training materials for the Theory, Hazard Perception and Driving test. A unique selling point to help give you the edge in a competitive market.

7. The choice of car is yours. You can buy or rent, or rent with the option to buy with fantastic discounts of up to 30%. Alternatively, you can supply your own car for the job (if suitable). No other national school offers you this flexibility or low car cost.

8. Consequently, with LDC you will be able to earn far more money than with any other driving school or indeed more than if you were to operate on your own. This is why we can claim to offer the highest potential earnings of any major driving school in the UK and why few driving instructors leave once joined.

Why choose LDC for the driving instructor training
1. LDC operates a very successful and profitable driving school, which is why you represent a real asset to us once qualified and why we will give you our full commitment to get you qualified. Most other driving schools, driving instructor training companies and so-called ‘colleges’ are in the main only interested in providing the contracted hours of training. So despite what they may say once they have done the training you are very much on your own.

2. The LDC driving instructor training course is designed to get you through the ADI examination in the most effective way possible rather than to make it easy and convenient for us to deliver. This is why we have developed state of the art training resources, modern support methods and a network of highly qualified and motivated DSA ORDIT trainers despite the significant extra costs this involves.

3. We allocate one of 40 ORDIT qualified driving instructor trainers to undertake your practical driving instructor training from start to finish.

4. Our pass rates are second to none with 99.7% of students passing Part 1, 97.3% passing Part 2 and 80.1% passing Part 3 in 2007.

5. Our unique state of the art student centered driving instructor training open learning resources (e.g. DVDs, guides, workbooks etc) are provided from day one to enable you to take control of the learning process and make maximum use of any spare time you may have.

6. The driving instructor training for each part of the qualifying ADI exam is overlapped so that the development of skills can commence immediately and less time is wasted waiting for exam dates.

7. LDC offer you the option of one-to-one in-car driving instructor training for Parts 2 and 3 to ensure that any driving instructor training is specific to your needs and no time is wasted watching or waiting for others or being left behind.

8. We can provide the option of a trainee licence with LDC should the extra practical experience be useful to help you pass Part 3 of the qualifying exam or if it becomes necessary to start earning money before fully qualifying.

9. Free additional driving instructor training is provided in the unlikely event that you fail any part of the qualifying exam and unlimited driving instructor training thereafter should you fail Part 2 or 3 a third time. In this way success is virtually assured sooner or later.

10. Finally because we are genuinely a successful driving school we charge almost a £1,000 less then those heavily advertised driving instructor training colleges or showcase driving schools who solely make money from driving instructor training. This is because we want a long term relationship and we know that with every addition to our driving instructor network our future profits will grow.

Why do I have to pay for the training to become a driving instructor?
Because of the freedom and flexibility with which they work, driving instructors are entitled to the status of self-employment with all the tax advantages that it confers. As a consequence, all driving instructors in the UK, regardless of which driving school they work for are self-employed. As such, in order to enjoy these benefits, you must pay for the goods and services that are essential to do your job (and indeed to start your job) yourself. Thus, it is standard practice in the industry to meet the cost of your own driving instructor training. However, when the costs of becoming a driving instructor are viewed in relation to your future earnings once qualified, this investment is very small and quickly returned. We believe that no one can match us on quality and certainly no one can match the value for money that we offer.

Payment methods
LDC
also understands that many people can be put off by the initial investment required and therefore offer each driving instructor training student a variety of payment options to help with the financial commitment involved. Combined with the fact that the course is designed to be carried out on a part-time basis around any full or part-time commitments (thus allowing students to maintain an income whilst training); becoming a driving instructor is virtually within anyone’s reach.
