One Week Pass Course
(30 hours of driving lessons, the driving test and the LD DVD/Workbook)
The One Week Pass Course usually starts on Sunday or Monday and finishes on Friday. It is ideal for those who are in a hurry, who could not otherwise find the time. The driving test would usually be organised to take place at the end of the week or during the following week depending on your personal preference. If you want a test at the end of the course you would need to book the course and pass the theory test well in advance of the required start date (i.e. at least one month in advance). However, occasionally short notice driving tests can be arranged but the best option is to buy one of our Theory Test products and pass this part as quickly as possible..

The in-car training provided is 30 hours on a one pupil to one instructor basis. (This includes 2 hours for attending the driving test). When you add the home study, using the LD system DVD and workbook, the total duration of this course is around 40 hours.
Residential one week courses are also available at various picturesque locations throughout the UK with good accommodation from just £20 per night including breakfast and video facilities. The LD System materials are provided in advance of the start date so that they can be studied before as well as during the one week course . Please note these courses are very popular and limited in number. For a list of locations where this type of course is offered please ring the LDC National Booking Office on freephone 0800 400 777 .
Semi-intensive Pass Course
(30 hours of driving lessons, the driving test and the LD DVD/Workbook)
The Semi-intensive Pass Course is identical in content to the One Week Pass Course above (i.e. 30 hours etc) except the training is spread over two or more weeks to suit you and your instructor’s schedule. This is the most popular and successful form of intensive training . It is designed for people who want to pass the test quickly but at a comfortable pace.
Midway Pass Course
(20 hours of driving lessons, the driving test and the LD DVD/Workbook)
For those who have already learned the basic control skills of driving we have the Midway Pass Course.
The in-car training provided is 20 hours on a one pupil to one instructor basis. (This includes 2 hours for attending the driving test). When you add the home study, using the LD system DVD and workbook, the total duration of this course is around 28 hours.
Test Booster Course
(15 hours of driving lessons, the driving test and the LD DVD/Workbook)
For those who are nearing test standard and who just need a short burst of lessons prior to the test we have the Test Booster Course. It is also ideal for those who have had an attempt at the test some time ago but haven’t had any lessons since. The in-car training is 15 hours on a one pupil to one instructor basis. (This includes 2 hours for attending the driving test). When you add the home study, using the LD system DVD and workbook, the total duration of thecourse is around 20 hours.
Weekly Lessons
Learning to drive, using the LD System, can be spread over several weeks and lessons can be booked individually or in a block at a discount.
Lessons are usually 75 minutes long (including 15 minutes pickup time). Therefore, you would receive a full hour of in-car tuition on each lesson. Unlike in the courses described earlier the LD driving skills videos and workbook are not included in the lesson price, but can be purchased separately. As an alternative to buying the driving skills videos you can rent them, for a nominal fee, directly from your local LDC instructor.
How many hours will it take?
In the UK people usually take somewhere between 30 and 50 hours to learn to drive.
How many lessons you need will depend upon your motivation and aptitude for driving, whether you have had any relevant past experience, and whether or not you can obtain any supplementary practice between lessons with a relative or friend. The above courses are therefore only a guide to what hours you might need based on the circumstances outlined. It is not a guarantee that you will be ready for the test; this will depend on your individual progress.
The best way to learn to drive
The best way to learn to drive is to take regular lessons spread over a few weeks on a semi-intensive basis. Pupils using the ‘‘one-lesson-a-week’’ approach often take many months to learn to drive. While this helps to spread out the cost you do end up paying more in the long run. This is because you often forget what you have learnt from one week to the next . You end up taking two steps forward and one step back. Consequently, you take many more lessons to pass the test. If you are taking just one -lesson-a-week you would need to increase the hours you need to learn to drive by at least 50%. Therefore if on a semi-intensive basis you need 30 hours to learn to drive it is likely that you would need 45 hours on a one lesson per week basis. This is the real reason why so many driving instructors encourage their pupils to take just one lesson a week and avoid doing intensive or semi-intensive courses. However, the LD System does help to overcome this problem because you can use the LD materials to remind you of what you did during the last lesson while preparing for the next. The materials are also extremely useful if you are able to get any supplementary practice between lessons as they can be used to guide the relative or friend who supervises you. Again this supplementary practice helps to overcome the problem of taking too long and paying more than you need as a consequence of only taking one lesson per week.
Pass Plus training course
Pass Plus is a road safety initiative aimed at improving the skills of newly licensed drivers. After pupils pass their test they can pay for further tuition from a registered Pass Plus instructor. Pupils reaching the required standard should then be entitled to a substantial discount on their motor insurance premium. Most of the large insurance company's participate in this discount scheme and there names can be found through the Pass Plus designated website: www.passplus.org.uk.
The course covers 6 modules: motorway, all weather, night driving, out of town, town (rush hour), and dual carriageway driving. The course will take a minimum of 6 hours to complete. It must be done within the first year of gaining your licence and has been proven to lower the risk of new drivers being involved in accidents. We recommend all newly qualified drivers take this course after passing their driving test.
