Cost of Training

LDC can offer you three driving instructor training course options standard, premium and intensive add-on. No matter which option you choose you are guaranteed to receive top quality bespoke training from one of our specially trained LDC Approved Driving Instructor trainers. LDC can offer training from over 60 locations around the UK including centrally here at our state-of-the-art training centre in Pontefract, West Yorkshire.

Typically an experienced instructor trainer would charge between £40-£80 per hour on a face-to-face basis. When you add the cost of a well supported, comprehensive training course package on top at around £600 you will appreciate why you might expect to pay well over £2,000 for training to become a driving instructor. Cheaper courses are only possible if they know you will ultimately be tied-in to a long term costly franchise/car hire contract or they know a large proportion of students drop out at an early stage of their course due to restrictive clauses, excessive written homework demands and unrealistic contractual deadlines which if not satisfied result in the removal of any "so-called" free face-to-face training. It is really that simple.

Each course incorporates open learning using our comprehensive open learning resources, free online iCourse, Apps, over 100 videos on are Youtube Channel, up to 70 hours of practical training (Premium course option) and up to 3 days of classroom/Zoom training (18 hours) when you decide to join us.

Intensive Training Add-on Option

For those students who may prefer to do the training on a more intensive basis, away from home, LDC offer an intensive course add-on option at our state-of-the-art training centre in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. We are fortunate to have several ADI test centres nearby, thereby enabling the training to be combined with a test, potentially speeding up the qualification process.

Premium Plus course students are given priority should they wish to take up this option, in part or in full, as places are limited.

Residential Course images

The key aspects of this option are:

  • In order to start the intensive training you would have successfully passed the Part 1 exam and have completed the foundation online Zoom workshops.
  • Up to 6 days of Part 2 and Part 3 training delivered over one or more weeks at the centre or more locally based.
  • The remaining on-the-job practical Part 3 course hours are delivered as full days observing you teaching your own pupils locally.
  • The training department will help to schedule the days of training and can provide advice on local accommodation.

Cheaper training courses

Any training course costing less than LDC is either

  • very difficult to complete (forcing most to drop out before taking Part 1 and thus obtaining any in-car training) and/or
  • you are required to commit to an expensive long term franchise contract over 1, 2 or 3 years or more with very limited car choice.

So you either pay a lot more in the longer run being tied-in to a long term franchise/car rental contract or you end up having so much unnecessary academic work to do to pass Part 1 that you give up or miss contractual deadlines thus never acquiring any "so-called" free practical in-car training for parts 2 and 3. This is how cheaper training is possible - you get what you pay for or rather you don't. This is why we believe LDC is the Smarter, Safer and most Cost Effective way to a new career as a driving instructor. Beware, thousands each year end up wasting their money on courses that seem 'to good to be true' from driving schools that are only really interested in selling online digital courses that you will probably never complete or enable you to qualify.

DVSA cost of examinations, trainee licence and final registration

ADI examination fees are payable directly to the DVSA. Part 1 test fee is £81, Part 2 test fee is £111 and Part 3 test fee is £111. The cost of a DVSA Trainee Licence is £140 and once qualified there is an ADI registration fee of £300 (paid every 4 years).
